Skywatch Friday

Today's view is from a few days ago. It was so nice when I got out of work that I took a drive thru the back roads of the Jacksonville Airport. Before you get to the terminals there is a road that goes off to the right where they have the economy parking, rental car lots, a post office, and the pet kennels. I like the ride out there because there are no tall buildings blocking the view of the sky. There are, however, lots of fences.

It has been pretty chilly the last few days; as low as 36 in the morning when I get up! Brrrr. I've definitely aclimated to the southern weather a bit. Personally I'd be happy with about 70-75 everyday with sunshine. It can rain at night, or during the week when most people are at work.

This one was from when I was pulling off the highway at my exit. I saw this plane coming down for his landing and thought it was pretty neat. He went right over me, but I was too far along the road when he got closer, and there was no way I could just stop there on the off ramp.

This one was taken back in september at The Boat ramp. It was definitely one of the more beautiful sunsets I've seen. Not that there is such a thing as a bad one...but you know what I mean!

My World Tuesday #2

So here we are at My World Tuesday once again! This week has been very busy with inventory at work, not my favorite thing to do, but over the years it's just become one of those Grin & bear it type things. Just do it, get it over with and don't let the little things get to you. And they will. People will argue over petty things, and you will try not to get involved and remain the impartial, stoic one, but that only lasts so long. Tempers get short, days get longer, and everyone just wants it over with.
So this has been my life since monday, and tomorrow (finally) we should be done. The last couple years, since we got a new supervisor, we've been getting more and more organized. So it has definitely gone smoother than in the past. We have some new people that just don't know the product line like we do. There are easily several thousand different parts we are dealing with.

And since I work close to the Jacksonville FL airport, thought I'd show a pic of this:

This was taken last week while I was moving pallets around making sure stuff was marked with the right part numbers. My SP for the week. :)

Skywatch Friday

Driving out of the work parking lot this afternoon I was surprised to look up and see this sight.

I've seen them (not sure if it's a "true" sundog or not) before, but the clouds kept changing it, or even the direction of my travel. There aren't many places to pull over to the side of the road and take pics really, so I found a halfway decent spot and grabbed a pic. This was not the brightest view I had, but was the best I could get at the time.

This photo is also near where I work, there's a large pond with lots of egrets around, and this cool clock tower. They've been baling hay recently and loading it up in the field nearby, and I definitely wanted to capture that!

scrap pages..

Over the weekend I got around to finishing a few pages that have been in progress, just waiting for the finishing touch. So, I thought I'd post them since I haven't shared many LO's lately.

Jeanne pointed me towards a neat blog, called 12 of 12, where you scrap 12 pictures from the 12th of the month. Neat idea! I happened to go down to St Augustine that day, it was a pretty easy task to acomplish! Although the real challenge for me is scrapping the ordinary. Put plainly, I suck at it. LOL

I also did my September month in review page. It was hard to pare down the pics for that one, since I was in Massachusetts for my vacation. I saw & did so many fun things, it was hard to decide what to include, and what to "pass over".

Then in the fall Issue of Scrapbooks Etc. Jeanne found a layout that would work nicely as a Boston challenge for us to 'lift, and boy, did it!

Here's the original:

My World Tuesday #1

Skywatch has a new sibling! It's called My World Tuesday, and it already has quite a following!! Growing up in the northeast has me missing autumn quite a bit this time of the year. Here in Florida the wildflowers start to bloom and the sides of the road are very colorful this time of year. The cooler temperatures help as well. It may not be the fiery color in the trees I'm used to, but for now, it'll do!

I love spending an afternoon at the st. johns town center mall walking on the sidewalks, watching people. Kids play at the pond, watching the fish & turtles, people play chess at the tables outside of a sporting goods store, there's even a little "bark park" for people to bring their dogs to run.

Here is where the chess players sit & relax over a few games. At the other end of the "mall" where there are several restaurants, there are a couple of neat fountains. At night the lights that are underwater show and create a whole new mood.

So there's a small look at My World! Go here to find links to many more people from around the world as they post their big or little corner of the world for everyone to see!

Sunday Drive & Skywatch

Sunday I drove around for a bit, undecided about what to do for the day. It was quite hazy out, but still decent. I took I-95 to get down there as it's a bit faster, but usually take the scenic route back.

I finally ended up in Old St Augustine, FL. I've been down there a couple times since I moved here and a couple times way back when I was younger and visiting relatives who live in the lake city area.

First pic is of the Bridge of Lions, there's still a lot of construction going on there to update said bridge.
Here is the drawbridge going up while I was on the walkway. I was hoping i would get to see it!!
Walking across it gave me a jump tho with the cars going across too. very shaky! LOL

This photo is walking around the perimeter of the Castillo De San Marcos. It's free to wander outside, but the inside tour costs a few bucks. Well worth it, as I've done it in the past.

I took a few new roads and explored just a bit more than I have before, thanks to the new and improved prices on gasoline this week! It was under $3 in places!! When was the last time you'd seen THAT?? I sure can't remember.

Here is another view of the fort from the walkway on the bridge. The cross to the right of the fort is from The Mission of Nombre De Dios. Very very old church, and site of the first Parish Mass.

There's a new community opening up too, as the road didn't show up on the GPS at all. That was a nice ride on nice new roads from just north of St Augustine to Ponte Vedra Beach (lots of spas and resorts here, very posh!) area. Headed back north on the AIA, and made my way back home to relax.
Thanks for joining me on my little journey! Click to visit Skywatch to see links to hundreds more participants of the many views from around the world.

Skywatch Friday

This week, I thought I'd post a couple older photos, and a couple newer ones. This one if from the long drive from Ft Worth TX to my current home in Jacksonville Florida. We did the drive in 2 days, stopping over in Hattiesburg, Mississippi for a night. Thanksgiving night no less. We had dinner at the Cracker Barrel, so I did have turkey dinner and all the trimmings. Only thing missing was my family and friends!

This model Blue Angel was at the Florida Welcome Center, somewhere in the panhandle, after we crossed the state line.

The next photo was taken as we were driving. honestly not sure where this was, but I loved the view! My supervisor is in front of me, I can tell by the kayak on his roof. This means that Pam & Jim (co-worker and her husband) were in their pickup behind me. The 3 of us have moved from Mass to TX to FL with the company we work for.

This photo was taken sitting in traffic, at lunch time today. loved the serenity of it..
After work was another story. We had severe thunderstorm warning and a couple nearby counties had tornado warnings.

Around the Beaches..

Last Sunday morning I went for my walk on the beach. It was pretty near high tide when I got down to the Jax Pier, so I decide to continue my walk on the street where it was dry. I've walked that area a few times and it's got some neat touristy places to browse in full of cheesy beach "gifts" and the usual beach towels, t-shirts, shells, and the like. In the summer it's a great place to go in just to cool off for a bit.

There was a fairly new restaurant that just opened up, called Paco's. Looks like I may have to check it out when my mom & sister come to visit in a few weeks.

On the side of a bar called Bukkets there's some pretty sweet artwork.

I also passed Freebird Live...local venue that hosts some pretty sweet shows. I've still never been there, but Matt nathanson will be there later this month, so, maybe....

Here is one of the walkways leading from the beach to the street:

Come Skywatchin' With Me..

It's finally starting to cool off a bit here, in Jacksonville, FL. It was in the upper 70's today, and has been down into the 60's at night. Now is when I start to go to the beach more, and just generally get out and about. I wish it was like this year 'round. Next year I'll plan my vacation to be a little later than I usually do, probably mid to late september, I've missed the Big E 2 years running, so that's on my radar for next year.

Anyhoo, I had the pleasure of seeing a beautiful sunset the other night at my usual location: the public boat ramp just down the road a bit. The colors were so vibrant, and the weather was perfect, I stayed til it sank and took quite a few pics. Still waiting on the hawk to show again, too.

Here's the sun as it's disappearing behind the trees....just lovely, no??
